Welcome to your journey towards authenticity
Who I Am
Hello fellow humans!
My name is Julia Wellons (she/her). I am a Licensed Professional Counselor practicing in the big VA.
As a relational therapist, I value authenticity + connection. The therapeutic relationship is collaborative and acts as a vehicle for healing! I emphasize rapport building, open communication, listening without judgement, and here-and-now processing to create a safe space to work alongside you. AKA~ I love getting to know all versions of you, as well as showing all versions of me~ from one human to another. As someone who has been + currently is “on the other side of the chair,” I understand how truly life-changing it can be to feel safe in vulnerability (in our own bodies and minds, with others, and within the world).
Therapy with me generally looks like what I call “today chit chat” mixed with heavier emotional processing. I tend to nudge clients to “go deeper”and look beneath the surface (a bit Freudian, I know). Together, we press “the rewind button” to explore how life experiences—things that did or did not happen— have shaped how you show up in the present.
My clinical experience includes working with teens and young adults (16+) navigating a variety of life’s struggles including: trauma, religious trauma, anxiety, depression, stress + burnout, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and women’s issues.
I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and culturally competent. As a biracial woman, I am super passionate about advocating and offering space for those of us who may not have the space in greater society.
Thanks for reading & I hope you will join me on an awesome therapeutic adventure!

What I Do
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. This is a highly researched, evidence-based technique wherein you process trauma and distressing life experiences through back-and-forth eye movements.
These eye movements, called bilateral stimulation, allows you to process traumatic memories or bodily sensations without becoming too overwhelmed. This helps to greatly reduce present symptoms, lessen the emotional impacts of trauma, and gain a new, positive perspective much quicker than traditional “talk” therapy.
